After being arrested for two months | Turkish authorities release the journalist “Qosai Amama” and deport him to Kurdistan-Iraq region

The Turkish authorities released the journalist “Qosai Amama” after being arrested for more than two months for “inciting the national feelings against authorities”.

According to reliable SOHR sources, the release happened under the condition that he would be deported outside of Turkey, where he chose to head to Erbil Province in Kurdistan-Iraq Region.

The Turkish authorities delayed the release of “Amama” despite him obtaining travel visa on June 22, and he was deported with a group of people deported to Iraq. It is worth noting that he was arresting for covering the case of a 16 year-old Syrian child sentenced to 22 years of prison, because he was near the location of a murder against a Turkish civilian, and all his family members were deported to Syria.

We, at SOHR, condemn the inhumane treatment by Turkish authorities towards Syrian refugees who have been forcibly and illegally deported to Syria, and we call upon the international community to assign responsibility for protecting Syrian refugees and preventing Ankara from forcing them to return to the so-called “safe zone.”
