Attempting to cross Syrian-Iraqi borders | Eight young men arrested by members of Iraqi Border Guards

Al-Hasakah province: Eight young men seeking safe haven including six from Al-Hasakah, were arrested by members of Iraqi Border Guards while trying to cross Syrian-Iraqi borders in Al-Hasakah countryside via illegal smuggling, and they were taken to a security centre with no information regarding their fate.

According to reliable SOHR sources, the Iraqi authorities previously arrested people seeking safe haven on borders with Syria, and handed them over to the Syrian regime.

Families of the arrested people fear the Iraqi procedures against the Syrian people, where the authorities hand these people to the Syrian regime.

On March 19, SOHR sources reported that a young man from karki Dajweer Village in Al-Malkiya countryside was shot dead by the Iraqi Border Guards at borders between Syria and Iraq in an area near Tel Kojar northern of Al-Hasakah, while crossing towards Kurdistan-Iraq region in search of safe haven, while another young man from Al-Qamishly was injured and taken to a hospital to receive proper medication.
