Turkish attacks on infrastructure leads to power outage in nearly 700 towns and villages in Ain Al-Arab (Kobani), Ain Issa and Al-Hasakah

SOHR renews its appeals to UN, international community and Security Council to exert pressure on Turkish government to stop blatant aggression against Syrians

In the past two days, Turkish forces unleashed a campaign of violent attacks on north-east Syria, where those attacks were concentrated mainly on infrastructure, including gas institutions, power and water stations, public facilities, schools and civilian houses. Those violent attacks come under a series of war crimes committed by Turkish forces against Syrians, amid ongoing inaction by the international community.

Those crimes have led to disastrous repercussions on the humanitarian situation in areas in Ain Al-Arab (Kobani) in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, Al-Hasakah city and countryside and Al-Raqqah countryside, amid rising concerns among residents in those areas about further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the region.

The damage to infrastructure by Turkish aircraft has led to total interruption of water and electricity in nearly 700 villages and towns controlled by the Autonomous Administration in Syria, mainly in Ain Al-Arab (Kobani) in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, Ain Issa in Al-Raqqah countryside and Al-Hasakah, where many stations and gas institutions have been put out of service, although those institutions belong to Syrian people, and not to the powers controlling the region.

The villages and towns which have been suffering from interruption of water and electricity are distributed as follows:

  • Ain Al-Arab (Kobani): 300 villages and towns.

  • Ain Issa in Al-Raqqah countryside: 100 villages and towns.

  • Al-Hasakah countryside: over 300 villages and towns.

The Turkish attacks, which have left heavy losses among public properties, violate all morals and all international laws and conventions.

Residents in those areas renew their appeals to international powers to interfere and put an end to the war crimes committed by Turkey against Syrians and public properties. The residents also demanded international authorities to impose a n-fly zone immediately in north-east Syria to protect innocent civilians.

The Syrian Observatory condemns the absurd attacks by Turkish forces, which target public properties belonging only to Syrian people and kill civilians, under the pretext of “countering terrorism.”
