Turkey detains 23 suspected Daesh members on border
Turkish army officials said Sunday that they have detained 23 suspected Daesh members along with 21 children trying to cross the border illegally from Syria, AFP reported.
“Twenty-three people suspected of being Daesh (ISIS) terror group members, together with 21 children, were caught,” said the army in a statement. No further details were given as to the nationality of the suspects.
Over the past year western powers have urged Turkey to enhance its efforts to stop the flow of fighters and supplies to militant groups across its border to Syria.
Following several recent deadly attacks inside Turkey that have been blamed on Daesh, Ankara has stepped up its efforts to strengthen border security, with the army reporting the capture of Daesh members almost daily.
The army said that it had also captured on Friday six additional Daesh suspects, along with eight children, who were trying to cross the border in the same area.
