Security vacuum in Daraa | 11 people killed in 17 attacks since early October amid failure by security services to control security situation
Incidents of security disorder and clashes between local factions and regime forces, especially with the presence of several armed local groups, continue to escalate in Daraa province, despite the Russian-sponsored reconciliation deals struck by locals in 2018.
The series of attacks in Daraa includes assassinations which target regime officers and members of security forces, especially since the members of some local factions have not handed over their weapons and continue carrying out attacks against regime forces and collaborators with them.
In this context, SOHR has documented 17 incidents of security disorder in Daraa province since early October, which left 11 people dead;
they are distributed as follows:
- Four civilians, including a child.
- Four regime soldiers, members and collaborators with regime security services.
- A man accused of “involving in drug business.”
- A member of the Russian-backed 8th Brigade.
- A member of local factions.
Since early 2024, SOHR activists have documented 290 incidents of security disorder in Daraa province, which left 285 people dead; and they are as follows:
- 85 civilians, including eight women and 19 children.
- 88 regime soldiers, members and collaborators with regime security services.
- 18 men accused of “involving in drug business.”
- Six members of the Russian-backed 8th Brigade.
- 17 ISIS members, including a commander.
- 59 members of local factions.
- Nine persons collaborating with the Lebanese Hezbollah.
- A regime dissident colonel.
- Two unidentified persons.
We, at the Syrian Observatory, hold the Syrian regime and affiliated security services responsible force the incidents of security disorder in Daraa in light of their failure to administrate areas under their control and security safety for civilians and renew our calls to the international community to exert all possible efforts to bring down the current Syrian regime.
