Expressing rejection of curriculum set by Autonomous Administration | Residents stage demonstration in Manbij city

Aleppo province: Tens of residents staged a demonstration in Manbij city in eastern Aleppo, demanding the teaching of the earlier curriculum and expressing their rejection of the curriculum set by Autonomous Administration, which is now provided in the city’s schools.

The demonstrators see that the new curriculum does not suit the students, and they have called for reviewing the curriculum and returning to the old curriculum.

According to SOHR sources, a large number of students have been affected by the disruption of education in public schools, where the number of schools affected by the strike has reached 260.

Accordingly, students in the city have faced considerable challenges regarding attaining education.

According to parents’ testimonies, this situations threatens their children, especially since no date was declared for ending this strike and there are no solutions satisfying parents and the Autonomous Administration looming in the horizon still.

On the other hand, several residents have chosen not to send their children to schools until a settlement is reached regarding the curriculum adopted in the city’s schools. Meanwhile, some residents have asked for the help of private teachers to teach their children at home.

On October 4, SOHR sources reported that dozens of residents in Manbij city and the countryside in eastern Aleppo staged a sit-in protest in the city centre, to reinstate the old educational system used under the regime and the “UNICEF” organization. The protesters expressed their rejection of the educational system imposed by the Education Authority affiliated with the “Autonomous Administration.”

The protesters also considered that the new educational system was not suitable for the students, and they called for a review of it and to allow a return to the previous curriculum, which included recognized educational subjects. Residents accused the Autonomous Administration of “threatening the identity and values of the community” and described the new system as a system that contradicts with the values of the Islamic religion and morals.
