Threatening to close Bab Al-Hawa crossing | Turkey refuses to give green light to “Al-Julani” to launch large-scale military operation against regime forces
Turkey has refused to grant HTS the green light to launch a large-scale military operation against regime forces in Hama, Idlib, Latakia countryside and Aleppo city. This operation, which HTS had been preparing for, was supported by several countries urging it to open a new military frontline against regime forces. However, Turkey, according to the sources, views this battle in a completely different light.
HTS, led by “Abu Mohammad Al-Julani,” seeks to expand its influence in the region and believes it has received implicit recognition from some of its supporting countries, which encourages it to proceed with this operation.
However, Turkey rejects this, considering that opening a new battle could lead to catastrophic consequences on the ground, as the area where HTS seeks to launch an attack is densely populated with displaced persons and refugee camps, and there are no alternative destinations for these civilians if the fighting escalates.
Reliable SOHR sources confirmed that Turkey has taken into account that Idlib and Hama, Latakia and Aleppo countryside are the last geographical areas available to the factions and Syrian displaced people. Any military operation could lead to additional displacement and immense pressure on the border regions.
Moreover, Turkey is concerned that the countries pushing “Al-Jolani’ into this battle might abandon him at a critical moment, leaving the area to face its fate against regime forces and Russia.
In light of these concerns, Turkey informed HTS of its firm rejection of any military action, and also warned HTS that if a new military frontline is opened, Turkey would not allow the move of any injured members of HTS to Turkish territory for treatment, and no military supplies will be allowed to pass through Bab Al-Hawa crossing, the “lifeline of northern Syria”.
It is worth noting that Turkish forces have ordered all forces and factions loyal to them in northern Syria to be on full alert and readiness.
HTS-held areas have witnessed intense preparations in recent days for a large-scale military operation against regime forces, amid talks of the potential opening of Golan frontline by Israel. “Al-Joulani” seeks to exploit the Israeli airstrikes on regime forces and Iranian-backed militias.
HTS has equipped its special forces, intensively trained its fighters through military courses and enhanced its capabilities in operating drones, which are a key part of its military plan.
