The most violent attack since destroying annex building of Iranian embassy in Damascus | Two non-Syrians among nine people killed in Israeli strike on Al-Mazzah neighbourhood
SOHR activists have confirmed the death of five civilians, including a child, in today’s Israeli strike which targeted an apartment in a building in Al-Mazzah neighbourhood.
The attack, which was the most violent one since the destruction of an annex building of Iranian embassy in the same area, caused damage to the first three stores of the targeted building.
Today’s attack also left four other people, including two non-Syrians, dead.
Accordingly, the total number of fatalities in that attack has increased to nine people. In addition, over ten other people sustained various injuries.
In this context, regime forces blocked roads leading to the site which was attacked by Israeli forces a few hours ago in Al-Mazzah area in Damascus.
According to SOHR sources, security forces have been deployed around the Iranian embassy, which is located 500 metres away from the targeted site, and the houses of many regime officials who live in Al-Mazzah neighbourhood.
SOHR sources had reported that an Israeli strike targeted a building which commanders of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Lebanese Hezbollah frequent to and a car parked in front of the building in Al-Mazzah neighbourhood in western Damascus.
SOHR documented 104 attacks in 2024: 85 airstrikes and 19 rocket attacks by ground forces, during which Israel targeted several positions in Syria, destroying nearly 190 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunitions warehouses, headquarters, centres and vehicles. These strikes killed 257 combatants and injured 179 others. The fatalities are distributed as follows:
- 25 Iranian members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
- 45 members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
- 28 Iraqi persons.
- 75 Iranian-backed Syrian militiamen.
- 24 Iranian-backed non-Syrian militiamen.
- 56 regime soldiers.
- Four persons, including two non Syrians.
In addition, those attacks left 35 civilians, including three children and eight women, dead and nearly 48 other civilians injured.
It is worth noting that one of those attacks killed Baraa Al-Qaterji, a prominent businessman close to Iranians, and his cousin.
The attacks are distributed regionally as follows:
- Damascus and Rif Dimashq: 44 attacks.
- Daraa: 17 attacks.
- Homs: 22 attacks.
- Al-Quneitra: Nine attacks.
- Tartus: Three attacks.
- Deir Ezzor: Five attacks.
- Aleppo: Two attacks.
- Hama: Three attacks.
- Al-Suwaidaa: One attack.
- Latakia: One attack.
SOHR would like to point out that Israel sometimes targeted more than one province in a single attack.
