ISIS resurgence | Commander among three Asayish members killed in attack on their military vehicle in Al-Hasakah countryside
Al-Hasakah province: Two members of an ISIS cell on a motorcycle carried out a surprise attack on a military vehicle of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) on the road to Al-Shaddadi in the southern countryside of Al-Hasakah.
The attack was followed by violent clashes between the two sides, which led to the death of three members of Asayish Forces, including a commander, because the vehicle burned down, after a grenade that was inside the vehicle exploded when a gunshot hit it during the clashes.
Areas controlled by the Autonomous Administration have experienced noticeable escalation of attacks by ISIS cells, which targeted positions and posts of SDF and other military formations operating in the region, as well as attacking civilians working in institutions of the Autonomous Administration.
Those attacks left heavy human losses among combatants and civilians.
SOHR has documented 203 operations carried out by ISIS, including armed attacks, executions and explosions targeting military and security forces, in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration since early 2024. According to SOHR statistics, these operations left 95 fatalities:
- 61 members of SDF, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and other military formations operating in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration.
- 12 ISIS members.
- 22 civilians, including a child, a witch and four guards of civil institutions.
These operations are distributed regionally as follows:
- Deir Ezzor: 175 attacks left 44 combatants, 16 civilians, including a child, a witch and a young woman, and eight ISIS members dead.
- Al-Hasakah: 15 attacks left ten combatants, four ISIS members and a civilian dead.
- Al-Raqqah: 12 attacks left seven combatants and five civilians, including four guards of civil institutions of the Autonomous Administration, dead.
- Aleppo: One operation left no fatalities.
