Amid severe economic crisis | People in Al-Suwaidaa go out in protest, demanding political change

Al-Suwaidaa province: Dozens of people from Al-Suwaidaa city participated in a protest, demanding political change and implementation of UN Resolution No. 2254.

The protesters lifted placards with slogans written on them that read: “down with the regime and its intelligence services,” “religion is for God and the homeland is for everyone,” “your attempts are in vain, there is no demise for rebels,” “in Al-Ba’ath state, free speech is the gravest of crime” and “this is the great Syria, not Assad’s Syria.”

This comes in light of a severe economic crisis that hard hit Syrians, in light of the depreciation of the Syrian pound, the rise in the prices of essential goods and the lack of job opportunities. In addition, the sharp increases in fuel prices in 2023 has been the direct trigger for the protests calling for political reforms, fighting corruption, and achieving social justice.

On September 21, SOHR sources reported that civilians gathered in Anaz Town southern of Al-Suwaydaa on borders between Syria and Jordan, demanding the departure of the head of the regime, freedom, justice and the imposition of the resolution No. 2254, raising banners that read “long lives Syria and down goes Al-Assad.”
