Including 58 children and 27 women | 288 civilians killed in SDF-held areas since early 2024

With the recurrent clashes between Syrian Democratic Forces and Iranian-backed local gunmen, frequent attacks by ISIS, indiscriminate bombardment by Turkish forces and their proxy factions, explosions of war remnants, murders and tribal infightings, the Syrian Observatory has documented the death of 288 civilians, including 58 children and 27 women, since early 2024.

 

Here is a monthly breakdown of the fatalities:

 

-January: 20 civilians, including five children and a woman; they are as follows:

 

  • Eight civilians, including a child and a woman, were murdered.

 

  • Five civilians were killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • Three civilians, including a child, were killed in indiscriminate gunfire.

 

  • Two children were killed in explosions of old ordnance.

 

  • A civilian was killed by ISIS.

 

  • A child was killed by regime forces.

 

-February: 28 civilians, including 12 children; they are as follows:

 

  • Eight children were killed in explosions of old ordnance.

 

  • Seven civilians, including a child, were killed by ISIS.

 

  • Four civilians, including a child, were murdered.

 

  • Five civilians were killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • A civilian was killed in an airstrike by a Turkish drone.

 

  • A civilian was killed by SDF.

 

  • A child was killed by regime forces.

 

  • A child was killed in indiscriminate gunfire.

 

-March: 38 civilians, including eight children and four women; they are as follows:

 

  • Four civilians, including three children, were killed in explosions of old ordnance.

 

  • A man and a woman were killed by ISIS.

 

  • 15 civilians, including two children and two women, were murdered.

 

  • Six civilians, including a woman and a child, were killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • Six civilians were killed by SDF.

 

  • A civilian was killed by regime forces.

 

  • Three civilians, including two children, were killed in explosions.

 

  • A civilian was killed by Iraqi border guards.

 

April: 25 civilians, including a child; they are as follows:

 

  • Three civilians were killed by ISIS.

 

  • 12 civilians, including a child, were murdered.

 

  • A civilian was killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • Three civilians were killed by regime forces.

 

  • Two civilians were shot dead by unidentified gunmen.

 

  • Three civilians were killed by SDF.

 

  • A civilian was killed by opposition factions.

 

May: 33 civilians, including six children and five women; they are as follows:

 

  • 16 civilians, including a child and four women, were murdered.

 

  • Five civilians were killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • Two civilians were killed by ISIS.

 

  • One civilian was killed in explosions of old ordnance.

 

  • Four civilians, including three children, were killed by SDF.

 

  • Three civilians, including two children, were killed in indiscriminate gunfire.

 

  • A woman was killed in Turkish bombardment.

 

  • One civilian was killed by Turkish Jandarma.

 

June: 40 civilians, including four children and four women; they are as follows:

 

  • 15 civilians, including a child and two women, were murdered.

 

  • 17 civilians, including a child and a woman, were killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • Two civilians were killed by ISIS.

 

  • Two children were killed by an accidental explosion.

 

  • A civilian was killed by factions.

 

  • A young man and a woman were killed by SDF.

 

  • One civilian was killed by Turkish Jandarma.

 

July: 46 civilians, including ten children and four women; they are as follows:

 

  • 20 civilians, including a four children and three women, were murdered.

 

  • 11 civilians, including a child, were killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • Six civilians, including a young woman and four children, were killed in indiscriminate gunfire.

 

  • Three civilians were killed in Turkish bombardment.

 

  • Three civilians, including a child, were killed by SDF.

 

  • Two civilians were killed by ISIS.

 

  • A civilian was killed the explosion of war remnants.

 

August: 53 civilians, including 11 children and seven women; they are as follows:

 

  • 17 civilians, including eight children and three women, were killed by Iranian-backed local gunmen.

 

  • 16 civilians, including two women, were murdered.

 

  • Eight civilians, including a woman, were killed in tribal and family infightings.

 

  • Three civilians, including a woman, were killed in strikes by Turkish drones.

 

  • Three civilians, including a child, were killed in gunfire by Turkish Jandarma.

 

  • Three civilians, including a child, were killed in indiscriminate gunfire.

 

  • Two civilians were killed by ISIS.

 

  • A child was killed by the explosion of war remnants.

 

  • One civilian was killed by SDF.

 

September: Five civilians, including two women and a child.

 

  • A young man was killed in clashes between smugglers and a patrol of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish).

 

  • A displaced woman was killed in gunfire of unknown origin.

 

  • A child was killed in bombardment by Iranian-backed groups.

 

  • A civilian was killed in an attack by tribesmen.

 

  • A woman was murdered.

 

The Syrian Observatory renew its commitment to continue monitoring and documenting all the developments on the ground in Syria including, the massacres, violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian people, as well as publishing all relevant statistics and causalities of such heinous acts, and hope to help all the ongoing efforts of bringing the perpetrators to special international courts so that they do not escape justice for the crimes they committed against the people of Syria.
