After having returned from Lebanon | Young man dies under torture in notorious “Palestine Branch” prison in Damascus

Damascus province: A young man in his twenties died under physical and psychological torture less than four months after his arrest, following his return from Lebanon, fleeing racism and repression by Lebanese authorities.

According to reliable SOHR sources the victim hailed from Al-Bokamal city in Deir Ezzor countryside. The man had left Syria for Lebanon, seeking a safe haven, and he was arrested on March 14 by members of military intelligence branch near the Syria-Lebanon border and taken to the notorious Palestine Branch prison in the capital, Damascus.

It is worth noting that the ongoing deportation of Syrians from Lebanon coincides with the racist campaigns launched by Lebanese politicians, disregarding the risks which they may face when they arrive in regime-controlled areas.

According to SOHR statistics, the number of people who have died under torture in regime prisons and security centres since early 2024 has reached 31, including a political activist, a writer, a university student, an engineer and a civilian holding American citizenship.
