Ongoing arrest campaigns | Former head of Shura Council and one of prominent figures of peaceful uprising rejecting dialogue with “Al-Julani” arrested at his home
Members of the General Security Service of HTS arrested Doctor Bassam Sahyoni, after storming his house and terrorizing his family, where he was taken to an unknown destination.
Sahyoni is considered one of the founders of the “Salvation Government” and the General Shura Council. He held the position of the Minister of Education and also served as the head of the Shura Council. He worked as a teacher at the College of Shari’ah in Idlib. He is considered today one of the opponents of “Al-Julani” and one of the prominent figures of the peaceful movement who refuse to engage in dialogue with “Al-Julani”. Bassam Sahyoni hails from Baneiyas city on the Syrian coast and was arrested by regime forces at the outbreak of the Syrian Revolution.
The peaceful uprising in HTS-held areas continues for the fourth consecutive month, where the protestors’ demands are manifested in the toppling of Al-Julani, putting an end to injustice and repression practiced by security services, the release of innocent detainees in prisons, the opening of frontlines with the Syrian regime, the release of all prisoners of opinion, starting immediate and fair trials for prisoners, stopping torture and reducing fees and taxes imposed on civilians.
In June, the security services of HTS carried out a large-scale arrest campaign targeting 30 activists who were arrested on charges of inciting demonstrations against Al-Julani and HTS commanders.
