Immigrant boat sinks near Cyprus coastline | Bodies of six persons found decadent and the fate of 25 other Syrians remains unknown

SOHR appeals to relevant authorities to do utmost efforts to disclose the fate of missing Syrians and provide help to Syrian immigrants who search for a safe haven

SOHR sources have reported that six decadent bodies of unidentified persons were found near the coast of Antalya-Turkey, where their cloths contained labels showing that they are made in Syria. SOHR suggested that the bad weather conditions led the boat to sinking and the bodies of those immigrants, who sought a safe haven, having been thrown to the Turkish coastline.

On the other hand, communications were lost with 25 other Syrian immigrants for six days, after the boat they were traveling in was gone missing near Cyprus’ coastline, where they had set off from Lebanon to Cyprus by sea with the help of smugglers, seeking a safe haven.

According to SOHR sources, the missing Syrians hail from Al-Quriyah city, Al-Shenan town and other village in the eastern countryside of Dier Ezzor, where efforts are underway to find them.

The families of the missing Syrians have launched appeals to relevant authorities to exert diligent efforts to disclose their fate.

Syrians seeking a safe haven disregard the threats to their safety and live and challenges they face, while traveling on such risky routes, both by land and by sea. Those Syrians also disregard the blackmail and swindle by many smugglers, where they see that there are no other options to leave death, oppression and poverty in Syria.

On January 14, SOHR sources reported that three Syrian refugees drowned in a migrant boat while attempting to reach Britain, seeking a safe haven in the European countries, while an unidentified fate pursues the other Syrian, as they are still missing, amid the continuation of searching operations of them.

According to SOHR sources, the refugees who lost their lives hailed from Daraa province, one of them was from Nawa city, and the other two were brothers from Al-Sheikh Miskeen.
