Amid growing concerns about their lives | Fate of nearly 300 persons held in resettlement centres in “Peace Spring” area remains unknown

Al-Raqqah province: SOHR sources have reported that Turkish forces and their proxy factions have held nearly 300 persons from different areas across Syria, who crossed the Syria-Turkey border over the past month with the help of smugglers. Meanwhile, their fate remains unknown so far.

According to SOHR sources, Turkish forces supervise the resettlement centre in Harran area opposite Tel Abyad city in “Peace Spring” area in Al-Raqqah countryside, where Syrians who were arrested after sneaking into Turkey are held.

Syrians held in that resettlement centre are deported in groups to Syria, mainly to the so-called “safe zone” which is controlled by Turkish forces and their proxy factions.

Syrians have turned to leave for neighbouring countries, seeking a safe haven and fleeing from the dreadful living conditions and deteriorating security situation in their homeland.

On November 29, SOHR sources reported that the Turkish authorities forcibly deported 250 Syrian refugees from their territory, despite having a temporary protection card (Kimlik), towards Syrian territory through Bab Al-Salamah crossing between Turkish territory and “Euphrates Shield” area, which is controlled by Turkish-backed factions in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

Since the beginning of the year, the Turkish authorities have forcibly deported tens of thousands of Syrians who hold temporary protection cards toward Syrian territory through border crossings, despite the poor living and security conditions in the areas of northern Syria and the displacement camps that lack the minimum living standards.
