Landmine explosion | 13-year-old child killed and young man injured while collecting “Flinders roses” in eastern Idlib countryside

Idlib province: A 13-year-old child was killed and another young man was injured due to the expansion of an old landmine, while they were collecting “Flinders roses” in Umm Al-Khalakheel area in eastern Idlib countryside. The injured young man, who hails from “Al-Mataa’ tribe, was taken to the hospital.

 

It is worth noting that war remnants are prevalent over large geographical areas across Syria, amid inaction by authorities and local organisations which have exerted no efforts to remove them.

 

Accordingly, SOHR has documented the death of 184 civilians, including 14 women and 45 children, due to explosions of old landmines, unexploded shells and bombs across Syria since early 2023. In addition, over 218 civilians, including 68 children and seven women, sustained various injuries.

 

The casualties are distributed regionally as follows:

 

  • Areas controlled by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham and opposition factions in Idlib: Three fatalities; including a child, and 11 injured civilians, including eight children and a woman.

 

  • Regime-controlled areas: 164 fatalities, including 31 children and 14 women, and 177 injured civilians, including 37 children and five women. There are 89 truffle pickers died, including two children and ten women, and 109 others injured.

 

  • “Euphrates Shield” area in east Aleppo countryside: Four fatality, four children, and ten injured people: a woman and nine children.

 

  • SDF-held areas: 12 fatalities, including eight children, and 19 injured civilians, including 13 children. There is two truffle pickers among the fatalities and a little truffle picker among the injured people.

 

 

  • “Peace Spring” area in north Al-Raqqah countryside: A child was killed and another was injured.
