Protests escalate in Al-Raqqa | Asayish Forces repress protestors and storm civilian houses

Al-Raqqa province: SOHR activists have reported that the Internal Security Forces “Asayish” have renewed gunfire and use of violence to disperse protesters in Al-Suwaydiyah Al-Kabira in Al-Raqqa countryside this evening. However, no casualties have been reported yet.

On the same context, Asayish Forces brought in large reinforcement to the region, amid ongoing security operations and searching in civilian houses.

Earlier today, SOHR reliable sources Al-Suwadiyah village, west of Al-Raqqa countryside reported internal security forces “Asayish,” continued to close the entrances and exits of the village as a curfew measure imposed yesterday. Asayish also continued its raid campaign and arrested more people.

This development came in light of popular protests that took place in Al-Suwadiyah village yesterday, denouncing the deteriorating living conditions, the shortage of sugar, and the poor quality of bread.

According to Syrian Observatory activists, the number of people arrested by Asayish campaign yesterday evening till the early hours of Monday morning has risen to at least 35 civilians.

Yesterday, SOHR activists documented the death of a child and injury of others by stray bullets of Internal Security Forces “Al-Asayesh”, while breaking protests in Al-Suwaydiyah town in Al-Raqqa countryside, which demanded improved living conditions.

“Al-Asayesh” brought huge military reinforcements and imposed curfew in Al-Suwadiyah town, and executed wide-range raid campaigns leading to the detention of over 20 civilians, while a military vehicle hit a child.
