Snow storm prompts emergency weather plan at Zaatari Refugee Camp

Zaatari Refugee Camp Director Col. Abdul Rahman Omoush on Thursday said an emergency plan to face the expected “severe” weather conditions is in place in cooperation with agencies working in the facility.

He noted that 12 tents, each of which has the capacity of accommodating between 200 to 300 refugees, were supplied with winter needs and food to be used in case of emergencies.

After the first snowstorm that hit the country earlier this year, a total of 1,037 tents were replaced with trailers and preparations were made with the World Food Programme to ensure the supply of bread during severe weather, according to Omoush.

He underlined the readiness of healthcare centres for any medical emergencies.

An emergency team and an operation room, provided by the Civil Defence Department and the UNCHR, will be working around the clock.
