A thousand Syrian refugees flock to new security office for papers

One thousand Syrians submitted applications to the new General Security office in Arsal Wednesday to fix the legality of their refugee papers, the security agency announced.

The office was erected Saturday for Syrian refugees in the northeastern town to obtain legal documents justifying their stay in Lebanon.

The office’s opening came after the government adopted a new policy to curtail the inflow of refugees and enacted new measures to organize the Syrian communities already in Lebanon.

Lebanon hosts at least 1.1 million Syrian refugees, according to the UN’s Refugee Agency.
