50,000 people killed and injured due to aerial bombardment on different areas in Syria in 2014

Syrian Observatory of Human Rights could document death of 6553 civilians, including 1814 children and 965 women, due to aerial bombardment by the regime warplanes and helicopters on several regions in Syria since the beginning of January until the late of December in 2014.

The number of people who died in Aleppo constitutes 50% of the general total of death toll. On the other hand, the aerial bombardment resulted in injuring of 40000 people; thousands of them were permanently disabled.

February and September were the bloodiest months during 2014.

Although that UN Council has unanimously adopted in 22/2/2014 a resolution number 2139 that demands all parties especially the Syrian authorities to allow the humanitarian agencies of UN  and its executive partners to arrive to those people who are in need quickly, safely and without any obstacles through the lines of conflict and cross-border but the Syrian regime has still imposed a blockade on several areas specially the Eastern Ghota which is inhabited by thousands of people in a defiance of Security Council resolution number 2139.

Despite our loss of hope in an international community capable and willing to put an end to the ongoing atrocities in Syria, we in the Syrian Observatory call upon all sides that claim to defend the freedoms of the people and their rights, to take a serious and responsible stance in order to end the bloodshed in Syria amid the increasing violence and the escalating number of casualties.

We also call upon all sides to support the Syrian people in their aspirations towards freedom, equality and democracy and to exert all effort in guaranteeing that the perpetrators and their wrongdoings will not go unpunished, through the International Criminal Court or through establishing a special court for Syria.
