Three US teens arrested in Germany for trying to join IS

Three American teens have been reunited with their families in Denver after they ran away to allegedly join the Islamic State in Syria, AP reports.

Two sisters age 17 and 15 along with their 16-year-old friend were stopped in Frankfurt Airport, Germany, by FBI agents who said the girls had been en route to Syria through Turkey.

Suspicion arose when the sisters’ father noticed they were gone with their passports and $2,000, according to AP.

An unamed US official confirmed that investigators were analyzing material on the girls’ computers along with tracing their steps before they ran away, adding that the incident was very “concerning”.

All three teens allegedly stayed overnight in Frankfurt before being detained by the FBI.

The case comes one month after 19-year-old Colorado teen Shannon Conley pleaded guilty to trying to help IS militants in Syria.

Western nations have become increasingly concerned in recent months with the rise of foreigners traveling to Syria and Iraq to join IS.
