France to float new UN resolution on Syria

The French foreign minister says France will float a new resolution in the U.N. Security Council to help bring humanitarian aid, food and medicine to Syria’s embattled people.

Laurent Fabius says France is working with “a whole series of nations” on the proposal but didn’t provide details of the planned text.

Speaking Monday on RTL radio, Fabius did not mention France’s longstanding hope to establish an aid corridor in Syria, a proposition that ran aground because of a lack of international consensus.

The comments come after hundreds of civilians were evacuated from the besieged city of Homs as part of a rare three-day truce.
